Architecture, Engineering, Construction

With Matterport 3D technology, streamline documentation, speed up as-built designs, and collaborate with ease.  Create immersive walk-throughs of existing conditions that can be annotated, edited, and shared across engineering groups and with key stakeholders.

Real 3D representations of your project let you virtually walk a job site at every stage of development replacing thousands of site photos with a single set of immersive 3D spaces for complete, efficient communication and long-term record keeping.

 As-built Designs

  • Easily create point clouds and OBJs
  • Import into a CAD software
  • Take measurements from every angle

Capture construction conditions for documentation on a single file and share that information as needed as opposed to managing 30,000+ individual photographs

Scanning is not only quick but also accurate enough to generate point clouds and polygons for as-builds and construction documentation.  Building information modeling is becoming increasingly important, particularly for commercial design and construction projects. For new build construction sites 3D technology  provides a way to track progress and capture changes in construction.

Remote inspections – for projects in regional or remote locations, 3D models capture sites in detail for the project team to perform inspections. This can save considerable time for team members that would otherwise need to travel and incur unnecessary expenses.

Documenting construction

Construction projects can be fast paced and complex, making it challenging to keep track of all of the changes that occur on site. We offer a way to cost effectively document all of this chaos in detail by performing periodic scans. These scans can then be used as detailed records of how a site has been built for any member of the project team to access at any time. Currently the most common way of documenting construction is to perform periodic inspections and take photos – however this is not ideal because most of the time inspections miss the offending area of the site or photos are poorly labeled making it impossible to gather information to help resolve the issue. With 3D models, however, it’s easy to navigate to the exact time and location within the site. This can help provide significant cost savings to the project.

The Matterport camera is a great way to capture a space for interactive walk through's, however for those wanting to use the 3D model with CAD software, Matterport provides a downloadable 3D object file (.obj) for this purpose. The .obj files can be exported into a photographic point cloud (.pts) format which can then be imported into CAD software easily and without any loss of detail.
